Medan, N Sumatra, Nov 21 ( Berita ) : A Lion Air passenger was arrested at Kualanamu International Airport here early on Monday for attempting to smuggle almost a kilogram of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as shabu-shabu, to Surabaya, East Java.
The suspect, identified only by the initial MF, was caught with 952 grams of Shabu-Shabu at 03.40 am local time before getting on board JT-970 aircraft bound for Surabaya, the airport’s speaker Wisnu Budi Setianto said.
The arrest was made after the airport’s security personnel became suspicious with the way the 28-year-old man was walking. They conducted a physical examination and found two packages of methamphetamine attached to the suspect’s groin, Setianto said.
The suspect, who is a resident of Labota Village, Bahodopi Subdistrict, Central Sulawesi provincial district of Morowali, admitted that he was promised Rp 30 million for smuggling the drug to the East Java city of Surabaya, he said.
The police of Deliserdang District, North Sumatra Province, conducted an investigation into this case. Besides seizing two packages of shabu-shabu, the police investigators also confiscated three different ID cards, two ATM cards and two cellular phones. (ant )
