Police Find One-Hectare Hashish Field In Madina

Medan, North Sumatra ( Berita ) :  Police in Mandailing Natal (Madina) district recently  discovered a one-hectare hashish field on the slope of Mt Tor Sihite, Huta Tua Jae village, East Penyabungan, Madina, North Sumtra province.

The  hashish field was found thanks to a tip-off from  local people who had noticed  suspicious activities on Mt Tor Sihite, North Sumatra Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Baharudin Djafar said here Saturday.

After an intensive search,  members of the local police’s narcotics unit found a plot of land, about one hectare wide, planted with hashish.

On Friday at 6 am Western Indonesian Time (WIB), the police officers began to climb the mountain, and at about noon, they  found the plantation on which stood thousands of 3-5 month-old hashish plants ready to be harvested.

However, the police did not find any person or farmer in the hashish field. They were suspected of having fled the area before the police arrived.

The police also found two onces of dried hashish in a small hut located in the field. The officers destroyed the field and took 1,406 hashish trees as evidences.

The police were now carrying out an investigation to find the plantation’s owner and the  people who had planted the hashish, he said.   “In accordance with an instruction from the North Sumatra police chief, we have to find the owner of the land and the hashish planters,” Baharudin said.
