Two Nuclear Agency Officials Sentenced To Five Years In Jail Each


Jakarta ( Berita ) : Two officials of the  Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten) had been  sentenced to five years in jail each by the Supreme Court in a mark-up price  of a plot of land in  Puncak area, Bogor district, for the building of a Bapetan  education and training center.

The two officials are project officer  of the project  and infrastructure director  Sugiyo Prasojo and bureau chief of general affairs Hieronimus Abdul Salam.  The sentence was read by the judge here on Tuesday.  Sugiyo and Hieronimus were also fined Rp200 million (about US$16,800) each.

Before their appeals to the the supreme court were turned down, Sugiyo had been sentenced to three years in jail and the appellate court later reduced his sentence to three years.

Hieronimus had been sentenced to 4,5 years in jail by a court and six years by an appellate court.  The mark-up case of Sugiyo and Hieronimus caused a Rp9,5 billion (about US$785,123) loss to the state.  ( ant )
